!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! including an MLS stadium on the infamous Fail Jail site.
That being said it all hinges on the county not being stupid and trying to complete a jail in the middle of downtown...
Rumors also say hes about to unveil plans for a “skyline changing” building at the Hudsons site. He has to be running out of money soon...

Still can’t figure out how they didn’t expect people to not want to live downtown when there’s a jail right next door.

The county still claims they want to finish the damn thing too. Its like damn, there has to be a better place for jail, god knows there is room in other places in Detroit.

“MLS Stadium seating 20-25,000"?
Cincinnati is drawing more than 20,000 to USL games......

So long as the Billionaire pays for every fucking cent. I’m so sick of states and cities bending over backwards and pledging hundreds of millions of dollars of incentive for sports stadium projects that never actually come close to delivering on their ROI.

About time there was a proposal for that site. It obviously looks like shit and a high-rise jail, downtown is almost the dumbest idea for Detroit. You have THE MOST space available for any city outside of downtown. Stadiums certainly bring more business than jails do.

This is the interesting part about this, as well as the new Red Wings stadium, is that its not just a stadium. This is planning to include “restaurants, hotel rooms, and a commercial office tower.” The wings complex has those things above and housing.
Only time will tell but in will be interesting to see if all the additions to the areas will change the fact that older stadiums were kinda dead zones unless a game was going on.

Why would you put a jail in the middle of downtown?

From one of the interviews he did “Dan Gilbert: “A jail doesn’t pay property taxes.”
I’m still curious to see what hes gonna do for the Hudsons site. They have been hyping that up like crazy.

There are several areas where I worked in town that would be perfect. Only because there’s no one living in the entire neighborhood.

Because the county is stupid.
This is what it looks like now.
It was supposed to be finished in 2014. The county has spent 151 million so far in construction. Projects another 175 million to finish it. And it costs 1.2 million to maintain the site per month that nothing is happening. Multiple people have been interested in buying the site but the county still wants to move forward with the jail...

I saw the Hudson stuff too, but honestly wasnt that interested ... probably because its less of an eyesore. Which says something. Its in a better spot though so I’m interested in what it’ll look like.

I think the bigger issue at hand is the Red Wings new arena name...that’s a joke.
Anyway...a jail in the middle of downtown? Perfect for tourists

Ficano should be sentenced to live in one of the cells of the unfinished jail for at least a year.
I mean, of all the stupid, idiotic places you could have picked to build a jail, and that corrupt fuck picked the worst.
apart from that, while it’s good that people like Gilbert and Ilitch are investing in the city, it’s important to keep in mind that “Detroit” is not just “Downtown Detroit.” Otherwise in 15-20 years we’ll have a vibrant downtown which is ringed by neighborhoods still mired in decay. It’s shit like that which leads to unrest, and I don’t think anyone wants a repeat of 1967.
Sports arenas are all well and good, but they do nothing to help areas like Brightmoor. my commute usually uses I-94, but it backs up so frequently and severely I typically have to re-route down Harper to Poletown, Gratiot, sometimes Hoover/Gunston to Gratiot, or cut down Conner and it’s clearly still the case that nobody gives a shit about the other 90% of the city.

Dan Gilbert will never run out of money.. He owns THREE casinos in Cleveland alone (One downtown and two Racino’s just outside Cleveland proper), and the Cleveland Cavs (as long as Lebron is on the team, they are printing money over at The Q).
Let’s not mention all the real estate he has in both Detroit/Cleveland. The dude is doing a ton of stuff to lift up both of these rust belt cities, and as a Clevelander who often travels to Detroit to visit family, I love it.
